New lettering!

So, this is probably my first time attempting my own typeface from scratch. I'm still going to refine these, but I like how Tuscany turned out, so I used it as my foundation when making the other letters. Like the example in my previous post, I want the logos to take on a more artistic approach to emphasize Italy's history.

I first hand drew some logo ideas, which were pretty rough. Then, I scanned those and placed them into Photoshop and drew over them using a 6x8 Wacom tablet. I played with the brush settings till I achieved a good brush tip. I decided to vectorize my letters with a program called "cocoa potrace" -mac only- which works much better than illustrator live trace. Your vectors alway come out smoother. A few letter spacing tweaks and this is what I have so far.

Italy Thumbnails revealed!

Here is my 1st version. I went for a classic Roman typeface, using the red and green colors of Italy's flag. Italy and its cities all have images that define there location. Italy itself is known for its history and ancient structures which contain many domes and towers.

Tuscany: wine/nature
Venice: Gondolas/water
Rome: the Coliseum/ancient world

My current color combinations are just temporary, In following revisions I want to explore colors that are beyond the obvious. but then again, the obvious may just be necessary.

Here are some other explorations that are in progress

This time I chose a more rustic font. Also, I tried to explore more options for the imagery. However, I feel that Rome needs some re-thinking.

ITALY!

The country I have chosen is Italy. I am taking a trip there next summer and decided it was a good opportunity for me to research where I want to visit.

And the cities i'm going to focus on are:
Rome, Tuscany, and Venice.
